South Shore wedding venues: country clubs, gardens, and estates
South of Boston, from Hingham and Scituate down to Plymouth and inland to Canton, Wrentham, and Rehoboth, weddings mostly happen at country clubs, garden venues, and a few historic estates. Many of them handle a lot of the wedding for you, and prices start lower than in Boston or on the North Shore.
We've gathered details on 12 South Shore venues. Pick a starting point and Sage will rank them for your day, with cost estimates wherever the venue publishes its prices.

A wide range, from club packages at the low end to the estates and a full-service caterer's venue at the top.
These are our estimates, not quotes from the venues. They include service charges and tax when a venue lists them. Your date, guest count, bar, and rentals will all change the final total.
Every filled dot is one the South Shore venue that can host 100 guests, shaded by its own estimate on the same scale as the Massachusettsguide's map; grey ones don't publish a venue-with-catering price. Outlined dots are venues in neighbouring regions.

Our estimates for the venue and food, including service charges and tax where the venue lists them, on a Saturday in peak season. Not quotes. A typical figure is shown only where at least five venues publish a price. On their cheapest published date, usually a weekday or a winter month, 2 more venues come in under $25,000 for 100 guests.

What changes the math here
More of the wedding in one price, and a hotel for your guests. South Shore venues include more of your vendors than most of Massachusetts. Clubs and garden venues here often bring the music, rentals, and a coordinator along with the food, so there's less for you to organize. Most also say what happens if it rains. The tradeoff is that almost none have rooms, so your guests will need a hotel nearby.

Start with the kind of South Shore wedding you want
Country or golf club
Clubs in Hingham, Pembroke, Kingston, Canton, Plymouth, and Rehoboth. A ceremony on the lawn and a reception in the clubhouse, usually with the food, bar, and a coordinator in one package. Ask what's in it.
Garden venues in East Bridgewater and Assonet, and a lakeside hall in Wrentham. Ask how many weddings they host in a day and whether you have the grounds to yourselves.
What different types of venues cost in the South Shore
The same wedding costs different amounts at a barn and at a hotel — and so does the shape of the bill. Three ways to look at it, for 100 guests.
What just the space costs
The venue rental across every venue that charges one as its own line — whether or not they also sell you the food. Just the room, nothing else.

Every venue that itemises a rental, including the ones that cater. Venues quoting a single package over the room and the meal never name a room price, so they aren’t here — and this is a part of a bill, not a whole one, so it can’t be subtracted from the next chart.

How much of the cost is for the space vs the catering
Every bar is one whole bill, so what changes across the list is the split. A country club / golf club earns it back on the menu; a event center charges you for the space.

Before you tour
Three decisions to make early
Decide how much you want handled
A club package can include the DJ, linens, and a coordinator, which is easier but gives you less say. If you already have a band or florist in mind, ask whether you can swap them in and what that changes.
Almost no venue here has rooms, and the towns are spread out. Pick a hotel close to the venue you like, and ask whether the venue has a hotel it usually works with.
Many venues here charge less on a Friday, a Sunday, or outside the busiest months, sometimes by a lot. Ask for the price on two or three dates before you pick a package.

What affects the cost of your wedding
Your date can change the price a lot
Wedding venue pricing is seasonal. 8 of the 12 South Shore venues we track charge differently depending on the day, and 5 charge differently depending on the month. Every figure below compares a venue with itself, so it says what moving your date does — whatever kind of venue you pick, and whatever the size of your wedding.

Inviting fewer people saves you less than you’d think
7 of the 12 South Shore venues that can host 100 guests put a floor under what you spend — a minimum on food and drink, or a headcount they bill for. It is the one charge that feels worse the smaller your wedding is, and it is rarely made clear on other platforms that show venue pricing.

Taxes and fees mark up a South Shore quote typically by 28%
Every pricing model carries them. At the 11 South Shore venues that publish their fees, the middle result is 28%, with most landing between 1% and 32%.
Solid lines are what a fee is always charged on; dashed lines are charged that way at some venues only. Sales tax comes last, on the bill and usually on the other fees too.

Sage the Date reads each venue's own published details, including pricing, catering and alcohol rules, music curfews, rain plans, whether you get the whole property, and how many guests each space holds. Every estimate uses your guest count. When a venue doesn't say, we tell you instead of guessing.
Before you book
Three questions worth asking
What exactly does your package include, and can we bring our own DJ or florist instead?
Are we the only wedding here that day, and is any of the club open to members during it?
Which hotels do your couples usually use, and is there a shuttle?
Sage reads each venue's own published pricing and policies, puts different kinds of quotes on the same footing, and estimates the cost for 100 guests. If a venue doesn't say something, we treat it as a question to ask, not a no.
