Mystic and eastern Connecticut wedding venues: mansions, inns, and farms
Eastern Connecticut is two kinds of place. On the coast, Mystic, New London, and Waterford have harbor hotels, inns, and old mansions by the water. Inland, the Quiet Corner around Woodstock, Hampton, and Canterbury is farms, barns, and country estates. What they share is room for your guests: a lot of venues out here have beds on the property, so the wedding can be a whole weekend in one place.
We've gathered details on 7 venues in Mystic and eastern Connecticut. Pick a starting point and Sage will rank them for your day, with cost estimates wherever the venue publishes its prices.
Too few venues here publish a complete price for us to give you a typical total we'd stand behind. The quotes also cover different things. A mansion might price the house for the day, a farm might price the barn and the food separately, and an inn's number may or may not include the rooms. So ask each venue what the price includes, what you'd still be hiring, and what gets added at the end. On that last one, about 29% typically goes on top in service charges, admin fees, and tax.
Each venue's own page has our estimate for your guest count wherever its published pricing covers enough of the day to build one. If you'd rather have a typical price to plan around, and your guests will stay in hotels anyway, see Connecticut Shoreline wedding venues.

What changes the math here
Your guests can stay where you get married. This is the part of Connecticut where the venue is most likely to put your guests up. That changes the whole weekend: a rehearsal dinner, the wedding, and breakfast the next morning without anyone getting in a car. It also means more to organize. Rooms come with their own rules and deposits, and some venues here leave the day's planning to you.
Have rooms for guests
57%
Right on the property, against 26% across Connecticut. Ask how many people it sleeps.
A hotel or inn near the water in Mystic, with a kitchen, a team that runs weddings, and rooms upstairs. The least to organize. Ask how many rooms you can hold, whether summer weekends need a two-night stay, and whether other guests are in the building.
A big old house with lawns or gardens, often yours alone for the day. Some sleep the wedding party and some sleep no one. Ask who can stay, who does the food, and what the rules are on candles and décor inside.
Fields, a barn, and a lot of freedom, up to an hour inland from Mystic. Some have rooms for family on the property. Ask what the price covers, who does the food and rentals, and what the barn has for heat and restrooms.
What different types of venues cost in Mystic & Eastern Connecticut
The same wedding costs different amounts at a barn and at a hotel — and so does the shape of the bill. One way to look at it, for 100 guests.

What changes the shortlist here
Three decisions to make early
Decide who sleeps on site
"Has rooms" can mean a bridal suite or a whole inn. Work out whether you want just the wedding party on site or most of your guests, then ask each venue how many people it sleeps, whether you have to book every room, and what happens to rooms you don't fill. Amtrak stops in both Mystic and New London, which helps guests coming from New York or Boston.
A hotel will usually hand you a coordinator. A farm or an estate might hand you the keys. If a venue doesn't provide one, budget for a planner or a day-of coordinator of your own, and ask whether the venue requires one.
Old houses and wooden barns come with rules to protect them. Of the rules venues here publish on sparklers, candles, confetti, and hanging décor, every one bans it outright or allows it only with conditions. If a sparkler exit or candlelit tables are part of the picture, ask before you fall for the place.

Before you book
Three questions worth asking
How many people can sleep on the property, do we have to book every room, and how many nights?
Do you provide a coordinator for the day, and do you require us to hire a planner or caterer from your list?
If it rains, is the backup a room or a tent, does it seat everyone, and is it included in the price?

Sage reads each venue's own published pricing and policies and puts different kinds of quotes on the same footing. Few venues out here publish a complete price and their quotes cover very different things, so this guide leaves out a typical total rather than building one from a handful of venues. If a venue doesn't say something, we treat it as a question to ask, not a no.
