What kind of place
In Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria, and along the Ventura coast, the hotels, restaurants, and venue are all close together. Decide what matters most: an ocean view, being right on the beach, or just an easy place by the coast for guests to stay.
Estates in Santa Ynez, Paso Robles, or Camarillo give up walkability in exchange for vineyards, hills, privacy, and more space. Check the drive from the hotels to the venue before you tour, especially for guests heading back late at night.
A resort, ranch, or estate with rooms means less driving for everyone. Ask how many guests can actually stay, whether you have to book the rooms separately, and which weekend events are included.

The floor, not the bill — what you owe before anyone has chosen a menu. A food and beverage minimum, a bar minimum and a fee for bringing your own caterer are the same move in three costumes, so they are added up per venue and shown together.

What changes the shortlist here
Pick the town where most guests will sleep, then check each venue against it. A venue can be in the same general area and still mean booking shuttles, leaving early, or staying an extra night.
